FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Awards for Long Service19th August 2005
Two long serving volunteers have been rewarded for a combined service to the RNLI of more than 40 years. Gordon Swan, 84 was given a bronze award for 15 years of service, while Eddie Atkinson , 80 was presented with the prestigious gold award after serving as Treasurer to Hartlepool Lifeboat station for the last 30 years. Retired bank manager Eddie, was presented with his award by the Duke of Kent, President of the RNLI, at a ceremony in London attended by more than 500 people. He said "It was a very proud day for myself and my family. The ceremony was fantastic and the Duke of Kent said thank you for all the years of service." Gordon, Hartlepool Enterprise branch Manager, was presented with his award at York Racecourse. He said "I was very proud to receive the award and have great admiration for the bravery of the lifeboat crew." Mike Craddy, Lifeboat Operations Manager at Hartlepool Lifeboat Station, added "Everyone at the Lifeboat Station has great admiration for both Eddie and Gordon for the hard work, dedication and commitment they have shown.
