FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NEW HARTLEPOOL LIFEBOAT PLACED ON SERVICETrent Class Lifeboat 14-37 Placed on Service28th September 2004 Hartlepool's new £1.2M lifeboat,"RNLB Betty Huntbatch", begins her service in the Tees Bay area today. The 25 knot Trent Class lifeboat will be stationed at Hartlepool and will cover as far North as Sunderland. Hartlepool lifeboat operations manager Mike Craddy said "Everyone is exited and sees this as a new chapter in the stations 200 year history of saving lives at sea." Six of the crew spent a week down at the RNLI's Lifeboat College in Poole, Dorset, to train in the new boat before bringing her back to Hartlepool. The Trent Class lifeboat was built last year and until it arrived in Hartlepool, was part of the RNLI's relief fleet. It was funded by a legacy from Betty Huntbatch from Essex, a long time supporter or the RNLI, who died in 2002. For More Information Contact: |
